A Simple Skirt Tutorial

Hello! I have just finished writing the tutorial for the skirt that I made. Its quite simple to make - so much so that I even decided to make another one (see above!). My instructions aren't very professional but I have tried to explain everything in the simplest way I can.

One word of advice though: I used really thick corduroy for this green skirt, and ended up breaking THREE sewing machine needles because they just wouldn't go through the fabric. So try to buy thin material if you can!

You will need about 1m x 1.5m of fabric, some matching cotton, a 15cm zip, some pins, scissors, and a sewing machine.

(The red bits are the 'nice' side of the fabric and the white bits are the reverse.)

Good luck! If anyone makes their own skirt, let me know how it turns out!

The green skirt looks gorgeous! I'm sorry it gave you so much trouble. Your tutorial is very clear and I love the fact it's all hand drawn. Cute.

Wow you're so talented! You broke three needles - oh dear! It was well worth it though as this is a triumph

Hello, I've just disovered your blog- I love it, thank you for such lovely tutorials! I actually made this skirt at the weekend (actually I made two), one was with a lovely midnighty navy velvet fabric which I made a little bit fuller with a smaller waistband. The other was plain black cotton, it was high waisted with a thick waistband and I also added two ties into the waistband which I tie into a bog floppy bow at the back. I've been wearing them all weekend, I'm planning another one with an old duvet cover and a tatty lace dress... :D

This is a really good pattern for all seasons. I'm definitely going to make (at least) one for my Autumn/Winter school wardrobe.

Eep, thanks so much for this lovely tutorial! That is really the perfect, most flattering skirt shape, I think. I am in the process of making one out of tweedy fabric (altered for button closure & knee-length), and I'll be making another out of camel-coloured wool. Love!
